Overview

Liver and biliary (bile duct) conditions require specialized surgical expertise. Dr. Biswajit Deuri, a Fellow in HPB (Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary) and Liver Transplant surgery, provides expert care for the full spectrum of liver and bile duct diseases. From simple jaundice to complex liver tumors and bile duct cancers, Dr. Deuri offers precise, evidence-based surgical management.

Conditions We Treat

  • Jaundice (obstructive and non-obstructive) — diagnosis and treatment
  • Fatty liver disease and liver fibrosis
  • Liver infections (abscess, amoebic)
  • Liver cysts (simple and hydatid)
  • Bile duct disease — stones, strictures and blockages (Jaundice Pipe)
  • Bile duct cancer (cholangiocarcinoma)
  • Stone in the liver (hepatolithiasis)
  • Post-cholecystectomy bile duct injury

Procedure & Approach

Treatment depends on the specific condition. Many bile duct stones and obstructions can be managed with endoscopic procedures (ERCP) combined with laparoscopic surgery. Liver cysts and abscesses are managed with minimally invasive drainage or excision. Liver tumors may require hepatic resection (partial liver removal) — a complex procedure in which Dr. Deuri's HPB fellowship training is invaluable.

Recovery & After-Care

Recovery varies significantly: bile duct stone surgery typically allows discharge in 2–3 days, while major liver resection may require 5–7 days in hospital and 4–6 weeks of home recovery. Dr. Deuri provides a detailed recovery plan tailored to each patient.

Frequently Asked Questions

What causes jaundice and how is it treated surgically?
Jaundice caused by obstruction (blockage of bile ducts by stones, tumors, or strictures) requires surgical or endoscopic intervention to relieve the blockage. Dr. Deuri evaluates each case and selects the most appropriate approach.
Can liver cysts be treated without open surgery?
Yes. Most liver cysts can be treated laparoscopically with unroofing (deroofing) or fenestration — a minimally invasive procedure with excellent results and quick recovery.
What is the difference between ERCP and surgery for bile duct stones?
ERCP is an endoscopic procedure to clear stones from the bile duct without surgery. In some cases, laparoscopic surgery is needed. Dr. Deuri coordinates both approaches for the best outcome.
