Advanced laparoscopic repair for all types of hernia

Book Appointment Call Now

Overview

A hernia occurs when an internal organ or fatty tissue squeezes through a weakness in the surrounding muscle or connective tissue. Dr. Biswajit Deuri specializes in advanced laparoscopic (scarless) hernia repair, offering all types of hernia surgery with minimal incisions, less pain, and rapid return to normal activities. Unlike traditional open hernia surgery, laparoscopic repair leaves virtually no visible scarring.

Conditions We Treat

  • Inguinal hernia (groin hernia) — most common type
  • Umbilical hernia (belly button hernia)
  • Incisional hernia (through previous surgical scar)
  • Epigastric hernia (upper abdominal wall)
  • Femoral hernia (below the groin)
  • Spigelian hernia (side of abdomen)
  • Hiatal hernia (stomach through diaphragm)
  • Recurrent hernia after previous repair

Procedure & Approach

Dr. Deuri performs TEP (Totally Extraperitoneal) and TAPP (Transabdominal Preperitoneal) laparoscopic hernia repairs — the gold standard for minimal-scarring hernia surgery. Through 3 small keyhole incisions (5–10 mm), a mesh is placed to reinforce the weakened area, achieving excellent long-term results with very low recurrence rates.

Recovery & After-Care

Laparoscopic hernia surgery is typically performed as a day-case or with an overnight stay. Most patients return to light activities within 3–5 days and to full normal activities in 2–3 weeks. Recovery is significantly faster than with open surgery.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I have a hernia?
Common signs include a visible bulge or lump in the groin, abdomen, or belly button that may come and go, a dull ache or discomfort especially when bending, coughing or lifting, and a sense of heaviness. Some hernias cause no symptoms initially.
Does all hernia need surgery?
Not all hernias require immediate surgery, but all hernias tend to grow over time and carry a risk of "strangulation" (blood supply cut off), which is a surgical emergency. Dr. Deuri will assess your hernia and advise the optimal timing for repair.
What is the difference between open and laparoscopic hernia repair?
Open surgery uses a single larger incision and results in a visible scar with longer recovery (4–6 weeks). Laparoscopic (scarless) repair uses 3 tiny keyhole cuts, leaving virtually no scar and allowing recovery in 1–2 weeks, with significantly less post-operative pain.
